AEGEK is one of the largest and oldest construction companies in Greece, holding today a leading position in the construction industry. The full name of the Company is AEGEK ANONYMOUS COMPANY OF GENERAL CONSTRUCTIONS AND MARITIME, TOURIST, AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTAL ENTERPRISES and its seat lies in Holargos Municipality, Prefecture of Attica. According to its purpose, it is mobilized in the execution of construction projects of every nature, both public and private, within Greece or abroad as well as the undertaking of any operation related to the wider construction scope. AEGEK is one of the most powerful presences in the constructing field, with operations extending, beyond the sector of public projects, to sectors such as energy and real estate. The abundance of specialized projects that it has on its record throughout its over fifty-year presence in the construction field (it has 50 worksites in full operation and development within and beyond the Greek boundaries at the moment), has rendered AEGEK one of the most dynamic production units of the country with a daily contribution to the development of the national economy.
The high technical know-how level of AEGEK was acquired through a very wide range of successfully completed projects covering various technical fields, such as dams, tunnels, hydroelectric and thermal power stations, large underground structures, transportation works (Athens Metro, railway works, motorways etc.), irrigation works, building works and works for the management of water resources. Today, the company participates in the execution of some of the most significant projects in Greece.
Among the clients of the Company are comprised: PUBLIC POWER CORPORATION, MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL PLANING AND PUBLIC WORKS, GREEK RAILWAYS ORGANIZATION WORKS S.A., ATTIKO METRO S.A., the ARMY STAFF, EGNATIA ODOS S.A., PUBLIC GAS CORPORATION S.A., OLYMPIC AIRWAYS S.A. as well as foreign sectors, such as the Ministry of Waters and Irrigation of Jordan and the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment of Cyprus.
The isolated time periods that were related to the development and the successful course of AEGEK in the business scenery are set out below.
1950 – 1992. Over this period, the company participated substantially in the Program for the Reconstruction of the Post-war Greece, for the reprisal of the consequences of the war and the renewal of the country’s infrastructures. Moreover, over the above time-period, the development of the company is also founded. AEGEK undertakes many projects, expands to various operation sectors and from a typical technical company of medium size it develops steadily into a powerful construction company of large infrastructure projects.
1993 – 1999. The efforts of the past bring forth. AEGEK meets the typical and substantial criteria of a large company. Its shares are listed for the first time in the Main Market of the Athens Stock Exchange and it obtains thus a wide sharing base. This period is related to the development of the strategic aims that contributed to the enlargement of the Group. AEGEK undertakes significant infrastructure projects and through a) buy-outs and b) the foundation of subsidiary companies it realizes a significant allocation of works and vertical organization of production.
2000 – Today. The period that we cover is characterized by:
The development of all the company’s financial figures.
The obtainment of specialization in large infrastructure and energy projects and the participation in pioneering development projects such as the one of ASTAKOS Port in West Greece.
The enlargement of the Group through large participations in construction companies, such as ETEP S.A., METON S.A., EFKLEIDIS S.A. etc.
The substantial reinforcement of the companies of the Group through the absorption of other companies, on the purpose of obtaining the new superior and supreme licenses.
Finally, the systematic expansion of the Company abroad, through the undertaking of all categories of projects (energy, transportation, irrigation, building works).
Throughout all these years, the collaboration of the company with the greatest international contractors such as ABB, HOCHTIEF, CAMPENON BERNARD, DUMEZ etc., the appropriate structure and organization, the experienced and specialized personnel and the large size of owned equipment along with the accumulated technical know-how, allowed AEGEK to undertake, execute and complete successfully technically advanced and complicated projects of large scale, attaining thus a high quality level.
Today, pursuant to the new development law for the construction companies and with the completion of the merger procedures, AEGEK and the companies in which it participates obtained 4 licenses in total of the new supreme and superior class. Specifically, the companies AEGEK S.A. and EFKLIDIS S.A., further to re-gradation by the competent Ministry, obtained the contractor’s licenses of supreme (7th) class while EKTER S.A. obtained the license of superior (6th) class. Finally, the license of 6th class is obtained by METON S.A. as well.
In this manner, four powerful and independent construction poles were created, reinforced at the level of both production coefficients and human resources. These poles are surrounded by already existing specialized companies, composing thus an extremely dynamic and competitive complex of companies that constitutes the AEGEK Enterprises Group. This evolution is very important to the company since, through the obtainment of the new licenses and the above corporate layout, it can claim projects of all types, categories and cost-estimate scales.
